Rachelle Zhang

Co-Executive Director

Hi! My name is Rachelle, a student at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour in Huizhou, China.

Growing up, my parents spoiled me with stories. From retellings of their childhood tales to the books they bought me that inspired my love of reading, I cannot imagine my life in which stories do not exist. Back then I would be obsessed with the Geronimo Stilton chapter books and Harry Potter series. My interests have evolved since then and I’ve been exploring various forms and genres of writing. My favorites would include any Hemingway short story, Gaiman’s Ocean At The End of The Lane, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

As I continue to pursue my literary obsessions, a part of me decided that I should start telling my own story. Writing poetry and flash fiction has helped me express myself in ways I never thought I could have. While I usually know what word to use for any specific circumstance, I can’t describe the feeling I get whenever I write. It’s a mix of comfort, excitement, fulfillment and so much more. I hope my time here at Global Inkwell will inspire others to do the same. I want to do what my parents have done for me—show the power of storytelling. And I hope that for every person I meet, they will have the opportunity to shape their voice and share their narratives.
