Angelina An
Director of Growth and Outreach
Hello! I'm Yi An, a student at Basis International School Park Lane Harbour in Huizhou, China. You can call me Angelina.
I grew up in the Middle East, where I spent my homework-free days dreaming in the lands of fiction books. My all time favorite was the Hunger Games trilogy, which kept me entertained. As I stepped foot into high school, I started reflecting on my environment as well as the culture I grew up in. I was introduced to and fell in love with books such as the Kite Runner and Three Cups of Tea. I have since aspired to be someone who is highly aware of their surrounding and is able to extract meaningful information to document.
I got into creative writing through poetry. I see Emily Dickinson's line "I dwell in possibility" as my motto for life. Whether it is the poetry or the actual possibilities that I dwell in, creative writing can be an important tool in the process. One of my biggest inspirations is the poem "I Have a Seat in the Abandoned Theater". It allowed me to see the power of language and poetry as a means of advocating for social and political change.
At Global Inkwell, I hope to represent China, bringing peers into contact with students in India, the US, and other countries, bridging cultures while leaving space for open dialogue.
