"Chained or Chosen?"
Samaira Kumra
A family legacy, built with care,
Their dreams for me heavy in the air.
Their voices echo, steady and bright (chained)
But my own dreams burn deep inside.
I know they mean well, I know they care,
Their love is a map, but not my way there.
Their dream feels like a life on loan,
And all I want is a life of my own (chosen)
Do I let go of myself to make them proud?
Or lose them by speaking my truth out loud?
It hurts to choose, it hurts to stay,
But maybe family isn’t just DNA (chained)
Maybe love isn’t measured in sacrifice,
But in knowing when to set me free.
Their roots are my strength, but my wings must try (chosen)
Because love means letting me touch the sky.
